The Breath Of Life
Stunned once again…
…science proves breathing is beneficial…
An article in the paper the other day ‘…the rhythm of breathing creates electrical activity in the human brain that enhances emotional judgment…’
…world-first…
Except I already knew that…so did the ancient…and not so ancient Yogis.
When I am treating a patient…stretching them to with in an inch of their life…no not me…I mean gently asking the muscles to let go and relax…yeah right…
There is inevitably lots of breath holding as there is a bit of…positive…stress involved…
In this state the muscle will barely let go…but as soon as I suggest a bit of breathing…as said patient is going blue in the face…the muscle starts stretching and gliding to a greater elasticity
If said patient starts laughing…there is an even greater letting go of the tension that is holding the muscle in its grip.
My point is…when we are in a stressful situation we tend to hold our breath
From an ancient Yogi point of view we are limiting the flow of energy through our bodies rendering us less able to think, feel and act appropriately
From a …world-first…scientific point of view we are limiting our ability to respond emotionally.
It’s a no brainer really…when ever we are in a stressful situation…the first thing we need to start doing is…
…BREATHE…
Of course this assumes we know how to breathe…air in…air out…does not necessitate good breathing.
Assuming we get all the ingredients right this will…
- Reduce stress levels
- Reduce anxiety
- Reduce head aches
- Increase energy levels
- Improve communication…as we take a moment before we open our mouth and say some thing we later wished we hadn’t.
- And much more…
It’s now scientifically proven…apart from actually keeping us alive…breathing is good for you in so many ways.
